This fantastic book includes a brief introduction to the history of the fascination of cutting materials throughout various cultures as well as a number of wonderful examples of contemporary cutters in book design, clothing and furniture design. I particularly appreciated the examples of large scale art works created in paper and metal as well as fine examples of whimsical and intricate work created by book artists. Amazing.

About the Author
A.R. Bernard is the spiritual leader of the New York Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, which, in addition to serving its members, conducts aggressive outreach programs in the community, including several schools for inner-city children, literary groups, and special ministries for the elderly and incarcerated. Bernard serves on the board of directors of the Brooklyn Public Library and the New York City Economic Development Corporation. His sermons are broadcast nationally on television and radio. He also lectures frequently at universities, churches, and Fortune 500 companies. He lives in New York with his wife, Karen, and their children.

The minefield of modern day dating and relationships is befuddling, and particularly in a world with so many competing viewpoints and media saturation. Cutting through all of the jargon Bernand focuses on four traits, maturity, decisiveness, consistency, and strength. Through his experience, these four factors are detailed as being the traits women seek, as well as the foundations for the makings of a responsible male.

In retrospect, the four traits appear simple enough, however each of the four involves self-discipline, which appears to be the overarching theme of all four factors. The development of each of these four factors requires accurate self-reflection and self-discipline; you cannot fake maturity, decisiveness, consistency or strength. Self help is not my go to genre I've read a few from Iyanla, Joel Osteen, even pastor (happiness is a way of life) but this was by far my favorite. It was a quick read, filled with helpful information and kept my interest from start to finish. I'm not married but I hope to be and this book provides a very sobering/realistic view of the institution. I loved the personal stories from pastor and the women it help in visualizing the outcome when these principles or lack there of were applied. The four traits are also very appropriate for women and I feel equipped with some useful tools to help improve my daily living.

This is the story: Erna Langvik gives her eight year old granddaughter a special birthday present: a doll inspired by the traditional Norwegian mythical creature "Nisse". Nils ‒ as the doll is called ‒ leads a happy life with his new family in Oslo. But due to an accident, Nils finds out that he means a lot more to Erna than just being a birthday present. Without knowing it, he has been carrying a painful secret, and during an adventurous trip to Northern Norway, he helps Erna to make one of the most important decisions of her life.

Werner Skalla (born 1981) is a co-founder of the onlinelanguage school Skapago. He is fluent in five languages. In 2014 hepublished his first textbook "The Mystery of Nils".

A good way to learning Norwegian by reading a mysterious story

I have found this book an enjoyable way to learn Norwegian. It is fairly fast but has grammar points clearly shown in digestible portions. Parallel to the grammar is an interesting storyline about Nils, a nisse (a sort of mystical rag doll), and the Norwegian prose progresses in complexity fairly quickly but enhanced by a glossary of words used in the passage. The story gives you the feeling that you are getting somewhere fast in Norwegian. Later in the book there are lists of Norwegian irregular verbs in the present, perfect and preterit but the long list of verbs has no English translation next to them which I found a bit irritating. I found this book "fast" in terms of progressing into the deeper waters of Norwegian grammar and vocabulary. As I have done this without a teacher, I was at some disadvantage. I think some might find it a bit fast but it has been fun to read and there is certainly a lot of "meat" in the book.
The authors state that there is Book 2 but so far I have been unable to find it. The book is also linked to www.skapago.eu, an online language school which does provide for on line one to one teaching (for a price). The story also entices you to keep going and for me this was its most endearing features.
I have found from learning other languages, that you learn most effectively when you start to read prose (or poetry) rather than just labour in the dusty granite quarries of grammar and vocabulary. It is all to do with morale and fun and learning by contextual clues and not just
intimidating vocab, syntax and grammatical hoops of fire to jump through. After all, this is how I learnt English as a child. I am pleased I bought this. It would have been better with a CD of the story so you can hear a native Norwegian narrating it.

Brilliant - best language program for Norwegian.

I can't even begin to say how happy I am with not just the text but the entire program. I live in S. Illinois where the only native speaker I know is my dad. I've been wanting to learn Norwegian for years, but the main places to find training (Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone) don't have Norwegian. (I'm not a fan of Rosetta Stone anyway). I'm at the false beginner level and have spent one week on this so far and have started chapter 4. The thing that makes this book so great are the freebies that come with it. (1) You can listen to the text by a native speaker online. I've been self-studying without much guidance and some of my pronunciation, I've found, is way off. (2) There are free beginner lessons online. You get to listen and watch an instructor and student having skype lessons. This is great, the instructor goes in depth about different aspects of the language. (3) You can hire your own teacher for skype sessions. I haven't done this yet, but I will as I get further along. (4) you can submit your homework and have someone check it. (5) At the beginning of the book they ask for feedback so that they can constantly improve their product (6) The lessons increase gradually in difficulty. Of course - if you hit a bump in the road, you're not out on your own - there are the tutoring services available.

This is a great program. The one I tried to use before it was the "teach yourself norwegian" which is currently out of print. This is heads and shoulders above the Teach Yourself book. I'm so grateful that this is available and am really excited that maybe... just maybe...I'll finally be able to speak Norwegian with my relatives!

Great book

This is the first time that I bought a book to learn a new language. This book is absolutely great for me as a beginner! It has a whole story line throughout the book (easy to follow and entertaining) and has well thought through lessons. Exercises are easy to understand. I liked very much that there is an option to go to the website to learn the right pronunciation. I highly recommend this book.
